Compostable Coffee Capsule

The coffee capsules from beanarella

The solution to a problem

Our compostable coffee capsules

Coffee capsule systems are becoming increasingly popular, but most of these systems unfortunately generate a considerable amount of waste. Coffee capsules are usually made from aluminum or plastic, which are not biodegradable and not compostable.

With the development of the beanarella coffee capsules, we have launched a revolutionary innovation on the market. Our capsules bear the Keimling seal and are certified according to EN13432, which guarantees their proven compostability. In an industrial composting facility, our capsules completely decompose in 4-12 weeks.

Unlike our competitors, we offer a unique return system for our compostable coffee capsules. Less than 25% of households have access to a garden or the ability to compost at home. That is why we collect the used capsules and take them to a composting facility. This ensures that our capsules are actually composted, while many capsules from our competitors, although supposedly eco-friendly, often end up in regular waste.

In addition, the fermentation residues from composting are sent to a biogas plant. At beanarella, we go one step further: we roast all our beans with 100% biogas. By using biogas, we can reduce our CO2 emissions by over 50% compared to conventional roasting with natural gas. This is another advantage that no other provider offers.

Moreover, we use exclusively organically grown coffee. This further reduces CO2 emissions by over 50% compared to conventional coffee cultivation. But just as importantly: our coffee is good for your health, as organic coffee is free from chemical pesticides.

With our comprehensive, sustainable system, we are the clear choice for environmentally and health-conscious coffee lovers. Choose beanarella and make a real contribution to environmental protection and your health.

100% compostable, no ifs or buts!

The beanarella coffee capsules, the world's first compostable coffee capsules

Our coffee capsules are made from a bioplastic. The components of the bioplastic are mainly derived from renewable resources. The capsules are primarily composed of polylactic acid, cellulose (plant fibers), and calcium carbonate (limestone). Polylactic acid is obtained from renewable resources based on sugar, such as sugar beets and corn.

You can watch videos about the composting of the coffee capsules further down the page.

Coffee capsules without aluminum

Our capsules contain neither aluminum nor heavy metals. The coffee capsules are also not perforated as in other capsule systems. We exclusively use high pressure to extract the aroma from the capsules (20 bar pressure).

Without plasticizers

Our capsules contain no bisphenol A or other plasticizers. Silicones are also not used, as is the case with most other coffee capsules.
